AVALANCHE WORKSHOP

Carefully and professionally execuded workshop

Carefully and professionaly made workshop about avalanches. Tour A is designed for climbers, backcountry skiiers and freeride skiiers skiing outside ski routes. It's meant for anyone visiting mountains and are responsible and aware of the danger that comes with winter weather. On our workshop which is led by professional instructiors and leaders you will get a course in theory and practical curriculum to hel you better understand dangers of avalanches. You will be tought the assetion of snow floor, search and rescue.

SCHEDULE:

FRIDAY:

- At 16h: meeting and departure from Pokljuka (Rudno polje)

-19:00 dinner

-20:00 lectures: Snow and avalanches, Usage of Intuative transceiver

 

SATURDAY:

-7:30 breakfast

-From 9am-15h( or 9-12 and 13-16h you can have lunch in the mean time) Fieldwork

Part 1: PERFORMANCE OF THE TOUR

  • preparation for the tour (tour selection, tour preparation - orientation, weather and avalanche forecast, risk assessment) - in the cabin

  • avalanche equipment

  • two-way test Intuative transceiver

  • choice of course

  • group movement (safety distance, attention)

  • Analytical methods for determining landslide hazards

  • cross section of the snow cover

  • snow cover tests (Norway, CT)

Part 2: AVALANCHE! - FRIENDLY HELP

  • accident procedures

  • use of the avalanche triple

  • searching with a Intuative transceiver

  • excavation

  • first aid

  • role of GRS (and possibly showing the search for the buried with a rescue dog)

- At 19:00 winter feast and social evening

SUNDAY:

- At 7:30 breakfast

- From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., a joint tour with simulation of an avalanche accident (independent work by candidates, use of  knowledge acquired the previous day). Depending on the conditions, also the use of crampons and an ice ax, minimum basic information for a safe tour.

- Lunch and conclusion at 1 p.m

Intuative transceiver, avalanche shovel and avalanche probe can be borrowed by each candidate free of charge at the lodge.
